This morning, the Superintendent’s Office received notification that students from the Sherwood High School Swim Team were exposed to a large amount of chlorine during an athletics practice, at a swimming facility in Newberg. Following the exposure, the coach quickly removed students from the pool and called 911, and five exposed students were transported to area hospitals for medical evaluation. School administration was immediately contacted following the incident, and parents were quickly notified.
At this time, four of the five students have been released from the hospital, and the fifth student is expected to be released today after additional observation. We commend the quick actions of the coach in addressing student health and safety.
Our office has no additional details at this time.
