Today, Governor Kate Brown announced the newest update on the lifting of the indoor mask mandates for Oregon, noting in a press release that effective March 12 Oregon, California, and Washington will all adopt new indoor mask policies and move from mask requirements to recommendations in K-12 schools. This latest announcement serves as an update to previous dates indicated by the state, including last week’s announcement of a March 19 date.
As shared with you in previous communications, the Sherwood School District Board of Directors took action on this issue on August 4, 2021 (video of that meeting can be viewed here). Based on previous Board action and the information released today, and pending no further county-level mandates from the local public health authority, our district will move forward with an optional mask rule once the current mandate ends effective March 12.
Our district continues to await additional COVID guidance updates from the Oregon Department of Education, and as noted in previous communications, we will be presenting details of the newest guidance to our Board of Directors at their March 9 meeting. Please stay tuned for ongoing updates on these changes.
