Follow-Up Information on “Secure” Event – April 4, 2024

By

Dear SSD Families and Staff,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our team responded to this afternoon’s “Secure” event at Hawks View Elementary and the District Office.

The “Secure” was initiated at approximately 12:41pm this afternoon at Hawks View at the request of the Sherwood Police Department, following a report of a potentially armed individual in a nearby neighborhood. As is standard practice, the District Office also issued a “Secure” immediately after Hawks View. This call was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure all students and staff at both locations remained indoors and that the buildings were locked to any external individuals.

As noted in our Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a “Secure” means that “students are brought into the school building and outside building doors are locked, while learning continues as normal (students/staff may use hallways or other areas).” There was no danger within either building at any time during this event. For more information about the SRP, please visit https://sherwood.k12.or.us/emergency-information/

At 1:22pm, the Sherwood Police Department cleared the “Secure” status for both locations following their investigation of the situation. We want to thank the SPD for their continued partnership and consistent diligence in keeping our campuses safe.
