1. Why is the school interested in this partnership?
    • Accessibility is our main driver. Students with diverse learning needs need more access to digital resources. The public library has a vast collection of digital materials that we’d love our students to have access to as well while at school via the SORA app.
  2. What is a student library card from Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS), and how does it work?
  3. Where can I find more information about E-content available from the local library?
    • You can read this WCCLS FAQ
    • You can ask any staff member from Sherwood Public Library, and they’d be happy to help
  4. What is SORA?
    • SORA is an app that allows students with a public library card to access eBooks and audiobooks from the entire WCCLS collection for free.
    • SORA uses the WCCLS pre-loaded lists to make selections for students of different ages. The lists are curated by WCCLS.
  5. When can my student access SORA?
    • SORA will be configured by January 1, 2025 on student devices. Any student can then access it with their personal library card.
  6. I signed my student up. When will the card come?
    • Sherwood Public Library will partner with the District to process, print, and distribute cards. We expect to have them all ready for students no later than January, 2025. Cards will be delivered to students at their schools.
  7. Does my student have to participate?
    • No, this is optional for families.
  8. My student already has a public library card. Do I need to do anything?
    • No – your student will be able to use the SORA app to access WCCLS resources with their current card.
  9. If I decide not to join this year, can I join in later?
    • Public library card accounts can be made at any WCCLS member library, including Sherwood Public Library. Additionally, we will offer opportunities for students to sign up for a public library card next year at registration.
  10. How is public library card access filtered or moderated?
    • All WCCLS books are selected by the WCCLS staff. Sherwood School District does not take part in moderating WCCLS resources.
  11. How do I find books that I think align with my student’s interests and our family values?
    • You can ask any staff member from Sherwood Public Library, and they’d be happy to help.
