Elementary Literacy Skill Building & Moving to the Middle Registration Now Open

Elementary Summer Learning Academy

Limited space is available in this year’s foundational reading support and reinforcement classes for incoming 3rd-5th graders. All other grade levels are full.

This two week (8-day) program, taught by Sherwood teachers, is intended to serve our elementary students who would benefit from targeted support in the areas of reading and writing in a fun, more relaxed school setting.  The reading skills development classes will be offered to any current Kindergarten-4th grade student who does not yet demonstrate reading proficiency at his or her grade level. Lessons will reinforce students’ knowledge while preparing them for the next step in their reading journey.

This class is intended for students who are not yet reading at their current grade level. These classes are not appropriate for students who are currently reading at or above grade level.

If you would like more information or would like to enroll your incoming 3rd-5th grader who is below grade level in reading and writing skills, please contact Nanci Stauffer, program coordinator, at nstauffer@sherwood.k12.or.us.

Date: August 3rd-13th (Monday-Thursday)

Time: 8:00am-Noon

Location: Hawks View Elementary

Cost: $275

Note – This program is limited to students currently attending one of our four elementary schools: Archer Glen, Hawks View, Middleton, or Ridges.

Moving to the Middle Transition Class

Current 5th Graders

If your 5th grader is a little nervous about moving on to middle school, this is the summer class for them. Teachers from Sherwood Middle School we help will ease their fears regarding lockers, transitioning between classes, organization, and the new responsibilities that come with being a new middle schooler. Students will have a great time as they meet classmates from other elementary schools, tour the campus, and get a sneak peek of Outdoor School.

This class is limited to current 5th grade students only.

Six different 4-day sessions will be offered:

August 3-6 (Monday-Thursday)                             August 10-13 (Monday-Thursday)
