In November 2016, the Sherwood School District passed a Capital Improvement Bond intended to fund a variety of projects throughout the District. The largest of these projects is a new high school that will open in the fall of 2020. With the opening of the new high school location, the opportunity will arise for the transformation of several schools, to new levels, in order to offer the District additional capacity at all levels. The existing high school will become a middle school, and both Laurel Ridge Middle School and Sherwood Middle School will become elementary schools. While these transformations will increase capacity at the elementary level throughout the District, it will be necessary to conduct a boundary adjustment process to ensure that the capacity within each individual elementary school accounts for future growth within our district.
To ensure an effective elementary boundary adjustment process, an outside facilitator, Karina Ruiz, will assist the District. Ongoing information about the process will be shared through this page and other communications. Public feedback can be provided during two upcoming Open House Community Forums, as well as by email throughout the process at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Boundary Adjustment Committee
After an open application acceptance period, Superintendent Heather Cordie and two members of the Board of Directors interviewed parent candidates that were selected and appointed to the eight member committee. Two parent representatives were selected from each of the four elementary schools to serve on the committee.
The Boundary Adjustment Committee has the responsibility of working with facilitator Karina Ruiz from August through January to consider guiding principles developed by the Board of Directors, followed by a recommendation of boundary adjustments to the Superintendent and Board. The Board will make its final approval after careful review of the committee’s recommendation, in January 2020, at the monthly School Board meeting.
Boundary Adjustment Timeline
Any boundary adjustment changes established through this process will take effect starting in the 2020-21 school year, in alignment with the opening of our new elementary schools.
Open House Community Forums will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 and Monday, December 16, 2019. For Committee meeting dates, please see information below. Boundary Adjustment Committee meetings are open to the public, however no public comment will be accepted at these meetings.

Committee Open House – December 16, 2019
Scenarios Y & Z for December 16 Open House
On November 4th, the Boundary Adjustment Committee presented four possible scenarios (A, B, C and D) for future elementary school boundaries and took community feedback at an Open House event. Additional feedback and questions were gathered by email at email@example.com. Answers to the majority of questions already submitted can be found on this website under “Frequently Asked Questions.”
On December 3rd, the Committee met to review community feedback and examine updated demographic projections. The Committee has developed two adjusted scenarios (Y and Z, linked below) for review and feedback, which are intended to replace the previous four scenarios. Community members are encouraged to submit questions and feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On December 16th, Sherwood School District will host the final Boundary Adjustment Community Open House, at 6pm in the Laurel Ridge cafeteria. At this Open House, the scenarios and their rationale will be presented by the Committee, questions submitted to the Committee in advance will be answered, and the community will have an opportunity to give public input regarding the scenarios. The Committee will then take this input and make a final recommendation to the Sherwood School District Board of Directors at their monthly board meeting on January 15th.
Revised Map of Study Areas
Based on feedback, a new map of the attendance boundary study areas has been created that is “zoomed in,” providing a more detailed view of the map. PDF of this new map below.
